We are rapidly advancing into a day and age where the use of wires is becoming obsolete and in the tech industry, “un-cool”. Thanks to a lot of major developers and companies, we are hoping that this technology overtakes the market for chargers and proves to be equally as good, if not better, as its USB ancestors. Apple has finally joined the game too and has introduced a branded wireless charger for iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods that will support AirPower iPhone Wireless Charging.
Apple is going to make use of a charging mat which is specifically designed to work with the iPhone, Apple Watch, and the AirPods charging case. It will commonly be referred to as AirPower iPhone Wireless Charging. There is not a lot of detail so far on it yet but this is everything that you have to know about this fabulous technology:
What is AirPower?
Essentially, AirPower is a mat that uses the Qi charging standard for wireless charging which the users will get their hands on too. It has a very spacious design in order to adjust multiple devices, but still small enough to make sure it’s portable and you can take it with you anywhere.
During the key event that took place on 12th September, Apple pointed out that when you are using the AirPower, your device should display a particular kind of charging interface. You might be familiar with this interface as it is very similar to that of the Apple Watch’s charging interface and the Nightstand mode when charging on its side.
Which Apple Devices are Compatible with AirPower?
The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are all the new iDevices with glass backs(which is essential and required for wireless charging) that will make use of AirPower so there’s no point running tests on your iPhone 6 or 7. You can also charge the Series 0, 1, 2, and 3 (and cellular) Apple Watch which is honestly, an excellent flexible option and will surely come in handy in a bunch of situations.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet but it might be possible that you can charge any device that supports Qi wireless charging.
The AirPods will hopefully be seeing an update soon enough too when it comes to AirPower. Although so far, it’s not completely clear whether Apple will sell the case separately or not.
When is the AirPower iPhone Wireless Charging Available?
The bad news is that AirPower will not be released until 2018 but in the meantime, or more specifically mid-September. You can wireless charge your iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X with the help of a Qi wireless charger. Mophie and Belkin have also designed new wireless chargers specifically for the iPhone X.
